Election Day Facebook Post – Fundemental Misunderstanding of Christianity

Given the very heated and debated election I’ve stayed away from comments on Facebook on just about everything. That said, this comment really bothered me due to the complete misunderstanding of a fundamental Christian belief.

This post was made by a classmate of mine from many years ago. I’ve edited out the names just for privacy.

It appears that the Catholic Diocese sent a letter out to their members in north east Wisconsin with some sort of a reminder to vote according to the beliefs you have (or say you have).

This particular post ‘went viral’ among most of this persons friends as can be seen by the 36 ‘likes’.

Given that we are all sinners (for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God – Romans 3:23), we are all evil! It is a false statement to say “Why do bad things happen to good people?”, There are no good people! The correct statement is “Why do good things happen to bad people?”.

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. – Romans 6:23

Back to the post; The issue here is that while we are instructed to love and support the sinner, as Jesus clearly demonstrated, Christians are in no way are called to support (or ultimately legislate via this election) the sin itself. To call homosexual marriage evil is correct according to the Bible.
